Kolkata trolley bag murder: Victim identified, police probe financial and property dispute angle

The Kolkata Police have identified the victim in the Kumartuli trolley bag murder case as Sumita Ghosh, the paternal aunt-in-law of accused Falguni Ghosh. Falguni and her mother, Aarati Ghosh, were caught while attempting to dispose of the dismembered body in the Ganges. Police confirmed that the accused traveled with the body from Madhyamgram and were intercepted at Kumartuli Ghat early in the morning.

Investigators are now probing possible motives behind the crime, including financial disputes and property-related conflicts. Initial findings suggest a confrontation between the accused and the victim led to the murder. Police recovered train tickets from the Sealdah-Hasnabad line, indicating that the accused may have boarded the train from Kazi Para station. Forensic experts are analyzing evidence, including the trolley bag, to determine when and how the victim was killed.

Police Commissioner Manoj Verma stated that multiple angles are being examined to establish whether the murder was premeditated or committed in the heat of the moment. “Forensic teams are working on the case, and we are questioning the accused to confirm the sequence of events,” he said. Officials are also verifying whether the accused attempted to dispose of the body at multiple locations before arriving at Kumartuli Ghat.

Locals at the ghat alerted authorities after noticing the women struggling with the heavy suitcase. When questioned, the accused initially claimed the bag contained a dead pet. The area where they were caught is close to the Sutanuti Police Outpost. The accused remain in police custody as forensic and post-mortem reports are awaited to confirm further details.
